Transposing Numbers

VISITOR: My boss asked me today if I was dyslexic which I promptly said no, but then she asked why I seem to transpose written numbers a lot which I'm aware that I do with writing, not so much with typing. I did a search on the internet and found out about Dyscalculia. Other than basic addition I've always had a problems with math, but was always an above average reader with excellent spelling and writing capabilities, so the thought of having some sort of learning disability like dyslexia never entered the picture until today.

DYSCALCULIA.ORG: You may have dyscalculia. Here's a checklist of symptoms.

  1. I recently typed in 1.25 when I meant to type 1.125. Numbers like this can get me. Worse is the fact that I can look at the typed number many times and see the wrong thing. I want desperately to stop this nonsense. I have a job that will not allow for this kind of mistake. Wow! What to do?

  2. I was recognized with this while in college. I had three weeks of extra training to recognize numbers properly. I was perceived as slow, because I was taught to take the time to make sure it was correct. I have to look at the number, three times to make sure it's real. Struggle for a pilot. But, my talents outweighed this. I now LOVE numbers because they challenge me every day.
